Guitar Lesson Guitar Nomenclature

Since the inception of communication, man was able to communicate with others by using symbols and actions. As man continued to develop, his knowledge continued to grow at an exceptional rate, and his communication development improved as sounds and simple words evolved.

As time passed society gradually developed small communities where people of the same class or group could relate to each other. Today communication has been transposed to a newer dimension: people are creating new words to fit their group. This is probably the why many musicians have created, and use musical jargon. Guitar playing jargon evolved so that guitar players could communicate within the context of their music.

This jargon in particular has created an exclusive social milieu where the people who know how to play the guitar are the only ones who can understand it.

While many people are against it, the jargon used by the guitar players has in some way, protected the people. It en ables musicians and artists to protect their intellectual rights from people who wish to take advantage of what they can provide.

The only problem with musical jargons like those used by the guitarists is that it becomes an exclusive form of communication that only those who understand it.

People who are not familiar with this type of communication, but are interested in learning how to play the guitar find it really hard to understand or learn.

Some people contend that learning how to play the guitar as well as learning how to understand jargon would be a nice if learned in tandem. Knowing these things, you could not only learn to play the instrument but be able to take part in a social group where each could understand the other.

Guitar-playing jargons have the propensity to create an atmosphere of superiority and expertise, where people who understand the lingo can actually have an advantage over others.

It might be hard for a beginner to lea rn and master the jargon, but the benefit would be that they would able to communicate with others who play guitar when using their musical jargon.

How to Improvise Using a Few Chords

When a painter is getting ready to paint, a color palette is usually chosen first. For example, if a forest is to be painted, the artist may choose browns, greens, and blues for the sky. Once the palette is chosen, it makes it easier to create the painting. Why? Because color decisions are now out of the way.

We can apply this concept to music as well. In particular, New Age Piano playing. In your lesson, Reflections in Water, we have four chords to play with and we have the order in which they are to be played. Now, all that is required to paint your sound portrait is the ability to take these chords and play around with them.

Once the decision about what chords to play and how to play them are out of the way, you can now focus on making music. This is how I created Reflections in Water. I knew that the piece would be in the Key of C. I then chose a few chords from this key and fooled around with them.

It can be very confusing for the beginner in Improvisation.

There are so many choices and ways to go about making music. This is why limiting choice is important. Also, it is equally important to begin by using simple means. Many students think that if they can't compose like Beethoven or Mozart, they are untalented. Get rid of this idea quickly. Everyone starts from simple means and it's a good idea to begin your experience in Improvisation the same way.

How Much of Your Potential Will You Release?

Do you ever feel there is an inner voice speaking to you, telling you that youre not very good, or you cant do it, or theres just not enough confidence and repertoire with you? This is the voice that calls itself I right? Lets refer to this as Self 1, and Self 2 as the normal you, the real you that has the masses of Potential.

Self 1 is our interference and concepts such as our judgements, associations, how things should be and uses words such as should and shouldnt. Have you ever noticed that? For example, you shouldnt play there tonight because the audience are just going to laugh at you. Self 2 is the large reservoir of Potential within each one of us. Its our natural abilities and talents and the unlimited resource we can tap into and develop. If its on its own, it can perform with gracefulness and ease.

The equation is simple. The more you minimise Self 1, the better Self 2 performs. Therefore, the more you work on things like your confidence, practice, an d Performance, conquering that silly inner voice, the better you will play and enjoy it.

Its good to be aware of how Self 1 came into the act so that you can notice it and conquer it when necessary. At a young age, children are great natural learners. The first eight years of their lives are crucial as this is when they are in an open space and receptive to different things that come in front of them. What were taught by our first teachers our parents is Self 2 but gradually is changed as we are open to a wider audience. We begin to collect ideas, attitudes, concepts and other beliefs and draw our own conclusions which get Self 1 in the act as it tells Self 2 that its wrong. As a life coach for Musicians, my purpose is to help Musicians regain that natural talent and ability they hold within them.

Self 1 always tries to attract our attention away from the music we are playing or listening to, like a child interrupting their parent in a conversation just because he wants something. Its very difficult, or nearly impossible, to just demolish Self 1, but you can change your focus, making it difficult for that Self 1 voice.

To begin coping with our Self 1, recognize that its not just going to get up and go away. As it talks to us, we have a natural tendency to talk back just like any other conversation. Not only is Self 1 talking, but our natural responses are getting in the way. You dont have to talk back to Self 1, so dont do it. By focusing on a particular part of the music such as the notes, sounds, sights, the way in which we are involved in the music, something thats happening in the present, etc.

Thats the best technique youll ever get and every great Musician will tell you what the power of focus has in music. This article forms as a basic introduction into Self 1 and Self 2 so that you become more aware of it, and can understand what to do.

How much of your Potential will you release?

Piano Class Very Unsatisfactory

I'll never forget a Piano course I took when I was attending the Community College of Philadelphia. It was a class Piano course where about 20-25 people were seated around keyboards. Each keyboard had headphones and we were supplied with a standard Piano textbook.

The course lasted 4 months or so and I learned how to play triads with both hands. I also learned how to read treble and bass clefs.

I can't say that I was thrilled with this course. In fact, I remember thinking how boring it was. And dry. Why couldn't we learn something that would allow creativity in?

I guess most teachers don't think you can be creative in Music until you spend about 2 years learning what they consider to be the basics. This is all nonsense and only serves to mystify Music and make it inaccessible to the masses.

I can only say that during the 16 weeks or so of attending this class, I learned that I didn't really want to play the Piano. Why? Because I wasn't having fun! And fun is the impetus for further exploration. It seems like common sense to me. Yet this idea of actually enjoying the process of making Music eludes Music teachers at the college level.

Ironically, elementary school teachers know that their students MUST HAVE FUN first or they won't be interested in lear ning more. Children spend their time in Musical activities that inspire imagination and create a sense of joy. How interesting that this same educational technique is not employed for the grown ups among us.

Of course I'm not saying that adults should spend their time skipping and hopping on Musical notes to learn them. What I am saying is that it's important that joy and love of Music be placed before theory and discipline.

Wedding Ceremony Music

Wedding music plays a significant pArt in every wedding ceremony. This makes every wedding day special especially during the focal point of the ceremony, which is the exchanging of vows of the bride and the groom. The wedding ceremony sits right at the heArt of this momentous occasion and a great live music to go with this can certainly add a unique presence and excitement to the event.

Religious Wedding Ceremony

If you want a religious wedding ceremony, choosing the wedding music is not a very difficult task for you since the church usually has standards concerning this. Often, there is a choir that will be singing the hymns and the chu rch organist will play various wedding music just like when the bride stArts to walk down the aisle.

However, if you don't want to stay firmly within traditional guidelines, you can always talk to the officiating minister about your choice of wedding music. Just make sure that the music you choose is of a sacred nature and that it will be appropriate to the tone of service that will be conducted.

Civil Wedding Ceremony

Meanwhile, if you want a civil wedding ceremony like a garden wedding, there is a broader range of musical styles for your wedding music. You can choose romantic jazz, modern love themes, traditional folk tunes, and other romantic types of music that may possibly suit your style.

Aside from this, you can also hire live bands, musicians, or duos or trios to sing during the ce remony and not just be confined to a choir and choir organist. However, you still have to discuss this with the officiating registrar to make sure that the music that will be played during the ceremony will be acceptable.

Wedding ceremony music is basically secondary to the ceremony itself. That is why you really have to take time before deciding which music to choose. The wedding ceremony, whether it is religious or civil, will be more memorable if the appropriate wedding ceremony music is played.

Wedding Music provides detailed information on Wedding Music, Wedding Ceremony Music, Wedding Reception Music, Wedding Music Bands and more. Wedding Music is affiliated with Top 10 Wedding Songs.

How Yo Learn Any Song In Under 30 Minutes With Your Guitar

I remember when I got my first guitar. My mother came strolling in to the house with a guitar case, smiled, and sat it down about 15 feet away from me. I instantly ran over to find my very first Washburn guitar. I quickly began to play my new baby...

Just for reference, my version of playing the guitar was laying the body flat on it's back like a slide guitar so I could see what I was doing... Oh man those were the days!

My first adventure in to a song was Pink Floyd's Wish You Were Here. I went to the search engine and had no idea what a tab was or even how to begin searching for one.

Finally I began to put two and two together and found a version of Pink Floyd's Wish You Were here from MXTabs.net way back before they got shut down =(

To make a long story short, I broke a sweat out of frustration in less than 5 minutes, put my guitar back in it's case and went back to playing my video games. That was back then...

This is now...

Guitar tabs look like perfect english to me now, but at the time when I was stArting out I couldn't make sense of anything. It looked like another foreign language to me! My friends laughed when they watched my fingers try to play a song in the most ridiculous way imaginable. I was just trying to do what the tab told me to do, but the tab didn't tell me what finger position to play in, or if there were any helpful tricks to make it easier on my hands! I was getting tired of this dead end approach to improve my skills.

Here is my point: Guitar tab sucked then and it sucks now. I'm still waiting for the pioneer that fixes this problem for the masses...

Dane Maxwell & Paul Johnson produce guitar video tabs for popular songs and Artists. Developed out of a need to help their students, the idea is still in its infancy and has yet to prove itself as a viable solution to guitar players around the world.

Playing Music for Pleasure and a Balanced Life

Ever since turning 35 years old Ive had a nagging feeling that my life had somehow changed. Where once there was wonder and amazement at the simple things in life like a cloudless summer day, or the unspoilt scenery of the countryside, these things stir little inside of me. It takes a lot more to excite me now than a few years ago. I talked to my friends who were the same age as me, and yes they felt the same way. What was it - whats changed?

We came to conclusion that it was hope we had lost - the hope of a better tomorrow. When we were younger the future was always there and wed always be young enough to change our lives and change our fortunes. The realisation that weve reached and passed the peak of our lives is a shocking one. Its too late for me now to get that degree and become a lawyer. Im never going to go to university and then on to become a world famous brain surgeon. Dont get me wrong, I love my life and I love my family, its just that I always thought t hat one day Id make the big time.

Ive played Guitar and sung since I was nine years old. Learning more and more songs and even writing a few of my own. I believed that one day Id make it. Perhaps a talent scout would hear me play or Id get around to making that demo tape and sending it off. Sadly a hundred and one other things got in the way - girls, cars, motorbikes, work, marriage and kids. I wouldnt change any of that for the world, but now Im in my Mid-thirties its finally occurred to me that my big breaks just not going to happen.

The answer to being happy once in your Mid-thirties, Ive decided, is to fill your life with the things you always wanted or thought you might one day have, just on a more realistic scale. Thus begins my quest for Musicians to jam with. I tried the band thing when I was a teen and wasnt impressed. There were too many people with large egos trying to railroad everyone else into doing it their way. Now Im looking for people like me. Ive readjusted my dreams. Now I just want to find some people to play with. No false hopes of becoming famous and gigging way into my seventies! Just regular guys and girls who also have lives they love, but want to play music with others.

For me playing the Guitar and singing helps me feel grounded and at peace with the world (ok ..Maybe just a little more at peace) and I know others feel the same way about their hobbies. Its important not to lose sight of the fact that just because were not young doesnt mean life is over. As long as Im still physically capable I will still be riding my motorbike and playing my Guitar. The dream of strapping the Guitar to my back and riding my motorbike around the world might be gone now but that doesnt diminish the pleasure both give me.

So who cares if my band is never going to get a song in the charts (or even play on stage at Butlins!)? Does it really matter if Im never going to be champion motorcycle racer? There are enough people in my life who love me and enjoy listening to me playing Guitar and singing to make me feel perfectly happy with today and tomorrow. My wonder at the world we live in has finally returned.

Brokering Concert Tickets 101

With the now permanent foundation of Selling that is EBayticket Scalpingor more kindly, ticket Brokering, has become a mainstay in the secondary market of ticketing. While once a simple side project to make a few bucks, this periodic gamble has become the livelihood of many people.

Sounds good doesn't it? Im going to give you the 2 minute inside scoop on How to start Selling concert Tickets Online.

First and foremost there are generally 2 types of sales for concert Tickets, a general public sale, available to everyone, and a presale. A presale will take place anywhere from a week to a day before the public sale. To give an example of How this works, lets say a concert has 1000 Tickets to Sell, they might have 200 Tickets available through a presale and the rest will be available through the public sale. Why go for the 200 instead of the 800? Well for a big sHow, one thats going to Sell out, there will be thousands of people bidding for the same Tickets co me the public sale, but the presale is going to be password protected, so only a limited number of people are going to be bidding for these concert Tickets.

Now all you need to do is be lucky, and get a good set of Tickets. Once you get these Tickets you need somewhere to Sell them, like EBay for a lot of people. But also, for serious Brokers, there are companies out there that will try and Sell your concert Tickets for you though third-party Brokering sites like http://www.TicketSpot.com. These companies let you set your own prices, so you control your profits, and you wont have to do any work after that, just sit back and wait for the sale.

Jared Lock is the co-founder and webmaster at http://www.Ticketspot.com and long time ticket Broker.

How To Play Guitar Like a Pro!

Having taught the Guitar for many years, I see the majority of beginners experiencing the same problems and making the same mistakes over and over again in their quest to learn how to play Guitar. It's my job to steer them through these problem areas.

These mistakes are basic errors that most beginners naturally tend to make. But these mistakes can cause major problems if you allow them to become habits in your playing. Unfortunately, 90% of Guitarists have done j ust that!

Avoid These 3 Mistakes Like The plague

The three main mistakes MOST people make when learning how to play Guitar are:

1: Trying to play too fast too soon.

Don't be in such a rush. Trying to go too fast too soon causes serious problems. Sloppy playing and mistakes will become your trademark.

Learn to practice slowly and perfectly. The reason for this, is, what you program your brain and fingers with while practicing, is what you'll get as a habitual and subconscious end result.

The GIGO computer term describes it best. Garbage In = Garbage Out. If you program a computer with faulty data, your results will be faulty too. It's exactly the same with learning how to play Guitar.

So practice everything very slowly and perfectly. Do this, and your playing will be to a higher standard than 90% of all other Guitarists. Yes - even those that have been playing for years!

2: Too much body and hand tension.

Have you ever noticed how the top professionals make it all look so easy and effortless? How relaxed they are?

Take a lesson from that.

When learning how to play Guitar, and in all practice sessions, you need to be as relaxed as possible at all times.

Unnecessary tension anywhere in the body when playin g will stop you like a brick wall. Any excess tension in your fingers, hands, arms, elbows, wrists, shoulders, neck, chest, stomach, thighs, legs is extremely hazardous to learning how to play Guitar properly.

Practicing the right things in the right way will give you amazing results - even if you practice only 10 - 20 minutes a day.

3: Learn the difference between practice time and noodling time.

Basically, you learn how to play Guitar in two ways:- 1: when you practice, and, 2: when you noodle and try out new ideas.

Practice Time is SERIOUS Time!

It's when you are specifically and very deliberately teaching your body and brain new motor and muscle-memory skills. This is all done very slowly, with great care and meticulous attention to detail. Never practice fast.

Practice time is where you develop muscle-memory and train your body to act in the most beneficial way for playing Guitar. Remember - GIGO!

This is the foundation building time.. where you lay the foundation for learning HOW to play Guitar the best way you can - without imposing limitations upon yourself through bad practice habits.

Noodling Time.

Noodling Time is where you learn how to play Guitar by putting into practice what you study during your practice time. It's where you to steal licks, chords and solos off records. It's where you hunch over your cd player or computer with your Guitar trying to hear and learn that tricky chord or lick.

It's where good habits can easily become undone!

Better to do this... Once you learn a lick, sit down in your chair in the proper position and play that lick over and over at a slow speed while focusing on being as relaxed as possible and with absolute minimal finger movement. Program that lick, your physical movements and relaxation perfectly into your brain. Only when it becomes 2nd nature to you, and you own that lick, should you start sp eeding up.

But... always focus on being as relaxed as possible.

Noodling is fun, and a necessary part of learning how to play Guitar. Do as much as you can. But.. don't mistake it for real practice time. Don't noodle with bad habits either.

Next... you need to ensure you are practicing the correct things in the correct way too. But that's another story.

Promote Your Music Band On The Web How To Be Found By The Search Engines

The worldwide web offers you a great chance to showcase your Music to anyone in the world without the expensive marketing strategies that major Bands have at their disposal. But there are plenty of other Bands out there that try to do the same thing. Having a great Band Website is a start, but don't stop once it is ready. To build an audience through the web, you need visitors. And that is only possible if people can find your Website.

Be found via the search engines

If you have a good and unique Band name, chances are that your Website will rank well in the search engines if people type in the Band name. But don't forget that only people who know you will ever attempt to search for your Band name. If you are a Band from Barcelona playing symphonic rock Music, it would be great if your Band Website appears in the search results for the combined terms symphonic + rock + Barcelona. The more competition there is for these terms, the more difficult it becomes t o get a good position in the results and the more difficult it is to receive visitors.

How to improve search engine ranking

Most search engines nowadays look at the keywords on your Website to decide for which terms it will be found. The actual ranking in the results list largely depends on how many other Websites are linking to yours, and links from important web pages count heavier than links from less important pages. The search engines also take a detailed look at the keywords present on the pages linking to your site. How to use this to your advantage? Spend enough time to get some links from other Websites, preferentially in a listing accompanied by a description of your Band. With a bit of patience, it will benefit your ranking.

Where can I get my Band Website listed?

There are many places on the web to Promote your Band Website. You can exchange links with the Website of a friend Band. You can put a link in your signature if you partic ipate in certain forums. On the other hand there are some dedicated directory Websites available where you can post information about your Band, including a link to your Band Website. The way they are organised makes it easy for people to find you, for example based on certain keywords or location. A great example is the European Music Band List ( http://Bandlist.eu ), in which European Music Bands can create a free Band profile page.

Edgar Clyne is a recording Musician who writes for Recordingfreaks ( http://www.recordingfreaks.com ) and works as an administrator for the European Band list ( http://Bandlist.eu ) .

Songwriting with the Electric Guitar

The electric guitar is probably the easiest instrument to use for writing songs. This is due to the fact that it is played through an amplifier. Most amplifiers have many knobs to adjust for getting the sound that you desire. You can usually adjust the level of bass, treble, middle and gain. Some amps have other effects to use, such as reverb and chorus. Reverb is a form of very short delay and can be used to add depth to the sound. The chorus effect is odd but thickens the sound the amp produces. A few amps out there have built-in effects that may add delay, flanger and distortion. Even if your amp does not include these effects, you can purchase pedals that produce any of them and these = will make it easier to write a unique song. Another reason to use effects is to write a song using less effect because the effect will do most of the work for you. Some people prefer not to use effects but if you are attempting to write songs using a guitar as the only instrum ent, it would be a wise choice to have overdrive and delay effects on hand.

It also helps to have proper recording equipment to lay down every idea you have. A simple 4 or 8 track cassette recorder would do the trick. Or you could use a microphone from your computer to record songs onto your hard drive. If you plan on using more than one guitar track in a song, be sure to record your rhythm tracks. Do this, and on playback, record yourself playing over it just to get idea for soloing. It doesn't matter if it sounds bad, just keep trying and then when you become more satisfied, let others listen to it and see if they enjoy it or not. Not much sense in song writing if nobody likes it at all. Recording isn't just to remember your idea, but to see what it really sounds like without the guitar in your hand.

Becoming a good songwriter is important in growing as a musician, because playing someone else's songs doesn't do much for creativity. Try learning as man y chords as you can and just keep playing them over and over. Get the sounds stuck in your head so that when it comes to creating a song you want, you can easily apply the right chords. You will not write songs very quickly if you are sitting there trying to find the right notes to go along with the ones you have played before. If you start getting stuck, don't try forcing yourself, go outside and do something else. Being outside or interacting with somebody is an excellent way of gathering ideas for your songs. When it comes to the writing process, it should usually help to be in a quiet place without distractions. This applies to writing lyrics for your songs as well, if you plan on having any. Writing lyrics according to the mood you are feeling is also an easier way to get the writing done quickly.

As far as the guitar playing goes, try to experiment with effects to get a sound that resembles the words of the song you are writing, which would be your mood, o r feeling.

Lyric Writing 101: Part 2

This is PArt two of my Lyric Writing guide. Here you will learn how to accompany words by writing alternate lyrics.

It is important not to mistake alternate lyrics with cover songs. There are many ways to cover a song, you can alter the lyrics slightly to modernize it like in the Disturbed cover of Tears For Fear’s “Shout”. You can also alter the tune slightly as seen in Madonna’s version of Don MacLean’s “American Pie” or Sheryl Crow’s cover of Guns n Rose’s “Sweet Child o’ Mine” [also altered to change the voice from male to female. You notice that the song in essence stays the same, both lyrically and melodically. For more examples of cover songs, see the reference to ‘Triple M’s Musical Challenge’ in PArt 1 of this guide.

What are they?

Alternate lyrics use both the melodic and lyric arrangement of a pre-existing song. The ‘new’ lyrics are sung to the same melody, and in the same manner as the original song. This process is not only used by novices, there are a number of established Artists that use this practice.

Why write alternate lyrics?

Many novices use this practice as a tool to help the learning process of combining words with music. As for established Art< /a>ists, well there are several reasons why - some possible reasons are as follows.

* One of the most common forms of alternate lyrics are parodies. Check out any of Weird Al Yankovic’s work. Some of his titles include ‘Amish Paradise’ (“Gangsta’s Paradise” by Coolio); ‘It’s all about the Pentiums’ (“It’s all about the Benjamin’s” by Sean Combs, Notorious B.I.G, Sean Jacobs, et al); ‘Constipated’ (“Complicated” by Avril Lavinge).

* Alternate lyrics can be used to add a little ‘flair’ to a live performance, or break the monotony of playing the ‘same’ song every night whilst on tour. This can be seen in the Guns n Roses track “Don’t Cry” [both versions can be found on the ‘Use Your Illusions’ albums.

* Perhaps too much was written in the original song draft and the writer adapted the excess to make a ̵ 6;new’ track. Or possibly the writer was unable to decide on a pArticular angle on the song, and continued to alter the song until they found something they were happy with. This can be seen in the Staind song Outside, you can find one of the original versions of this song through a simple search on the ‘net.

Getting StArted

It is probably best when you first attempt to write alternate lyrics, to choose a song that you are familiar with. When choosing a song, try to pick a melody you know well. To stArt with, examine the lyrics, making note of patterns such as rhyme schemes and syllable count. What do I mean by this? Look for which line ends rhyme together and whether there is a pattern to it. Count the number of syllables in each line and see if there is any intentional design to them (note not all will have this, but it is important to take note of what is there).

* -- * Make sure you know the song well, listen to it 100 times if need be. You need to be able to not only call the melody to mind but also how the lyrics are placed and sung.

What are you going to write about? You will need to have a clear idea of what you are going to write about. If you are going to write a parody, what topic are you going to use? Jot down any ideas and thoughts you could cover in the song, use something like the word association exercises in PArt 1 of this series. If you decide to do a more serious song, jot down some ideas/words, etc that come to mind - this can help you when it comes to the writing of the lyrics.

Now I can’t tell you exactly how to go about the actual writing process. Everyone has their own style and methods, to be honest, I’m not exactly sure how I write, it just comes to me. I can however, give you some pointers to keep in mind when it comes to writing alternate lyrics.

Hints and Tips

# I mentioned earlier to take note of the syllable count. By keeping this count in mind you will be able to keep pace with the original song. Keep a copy of the lyrics close by for easy reference if it makes it easier for you. I’ve noticed a couple of examples in my travels have disregarded this, ending disastrously for the song. The reason this happens is because the ‘beat’ [or syllable count for th e lyrics has been disrupted, throwing out the flow of the song. For example, if the original lyrics go: 7/8/7/7 and your alternate lyrics go 5/6/5/7; you can tell straight away that there is going to be some problems in the flow of the ‘new’ song. This may take a little more time and planning in the writing of the lyrics, but if you stick with the ‘format’ of the original song your lyrics will thank you for it.

There is an exception to every rule, and there is one to this. You can sometimes get away with being one syllable out either side of the actual count. Though you need to be careful when doing this because it has a chance of not working. This will not work for all songs, so you will need to be careful when applying it. This technique can help give you a little more freedom to work with, however, I strongly suggest leaving this technique until you are more familiar with lyric writing.

# If a lyric has a specific rhyme scheme, try and stick with it. Just like poetry there are different styles that are used. If a piece uses freestyle rhyme, you may be able to get away with using free verse for your lyrics.

# Try to stay away from the lines or phrases used in the original song especially if you are doing something drastic like converting rock influenced lyrics into that of say Christian lyrics. That in itself could be a very effective song [genre mixing is very popular these days but only if it is done correctly. Remember what you are writing about, I recently saw a piece that tried to convert a piece about street racing into a Christian based song. This would have been very effective if they didn’t use the same phrases that were in the original song that conflicted with what the author was trying to say.

# You can, if you like, use a prompt from the original song if you are writing about a similar topic. As in the first examples given on types of alternate lyrics, both the Guns n Roses an d Staind songs mentioned, the chorus’ stay the same and ties the two sets of lyrics together. You can use a line or two if you like to ‘tie’ your piece to the original song and to compliment to your ‘new’ song.

* * * * * * * * * *

By using alternate lyrics you are able to teach yourself how to accompany words with music. Once you feel comfortable with the accompanying of words and music in this form, you can take a go at a little harder technique found in the next PArt 3 of this series, Sampling and Ghost Songs.

Beauchamp Brings Diversity to Music

Everyone has a talent. For Miami, Okla.s, Brian Beauchamp, its playing Music. Beauchamp who began playing guitar in 1998 while attending college at the University of Oklahoma said he first played after borrowing a guitar from his friend, Jamie Neal. He now plays rhythm guitar and is lead vocals. For this he was nominated for the Payne County Line 2005 New Artist of the Year award.

The first baby born in Alaska in 1976, Beauchamp was born in Anchorage and moved to Miami when he was six months old. He later graduated from Miami High School and attended college off and on at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College, Oklahoma State University, the University of Oklahoma and a college in Kentucky, where he played soccer. He said that although he didnt start playing Music a lot until college, it has been a passion of his since grade school.

I credit Priscilla Fullerton, a grade school teacher, for my interest in Music, Beauchamp said. I was interested in Led Zeppelin and Pi nk Floyd, as well as Garth Brooks, Clint Black and Keith Whitley, while in high school. So, my Music taste has evolved. I like non-Nashville type stuff and I have my own style.

Currently, Beauchamp has gone single, but is interested in reforming a group. Hes played with two bands and made a live CD. His last band, Backslider, has a group on yahoo.com where Beauchamps fans can keep up to date with what hes doing now and view what the band was like while they were together. Its located at http://launch.groups.yahoo.com/group/Backslider/.

While with the band, Backslider, he played in bars, saloons, various functions and parties around Stillwater, Okla. He recently sat in with a band playing at Turtleheads in Joplin, Mo. Hes also starting a consulting program in forestry to allow himself the freedom to work in forestry [one of his college majors and to have time for his Music.

Ive been writing a lot since the last band split up, Beauchamp said. My Music has a l ot of diversity in it from throughout life experiences with family, friends and relationships. Its a release for me. Whenever I play I feel like a different person. I can say whats on my mind and not be judged for it.

I am currently in my third year of college majoring in public relations. I am aspiring to become either a Music publicist, or a Music journalist. I have six years of journalism experience, including high school and college, as well as professional experience at two local newspapers. In the past year I have had to opportunity to meet with and interview bands and Musicians such as Trace Adkins, Rascal Flatts, Blake Shelton, Keith Anderson, Foghat, Rich McCready, Doug Stone, Cross Canadian Ragweed and The Great Divide.

Roll Over Roy Orbison

Oh, Boy! Did Roy Orbison get it wrong? Buddy Holly would have Rolled over in his grave while Beethoven, contrary to the lyrics of Chuck Berry's classic song, rests peacefully in his, secure in the knowledge that his music has withstood the test of time. Rock 'n' Roll die? That'll be the day!

In the late nineteen sixties Roy Orbison, on a concert tour of Australia, arrived in Adelaide on the same flight as the Walker Brothers. I recall watching on television the airport interview in which Roy, always the nice guy, explained how much he loved the music of Scott Walker and his fellow band members. He went on to explain that he believed Rock 'n' Roll was a passing craze which would soon die out, but that the wonderful music of the Walker Brothers would live on forever.

Sadly, it was the loveable Roy himself who would soon die after such a tragic life, leaving behind a rich legacy of music that remains very popular so many years later. As for the music of the Walker Brothers, they certainly left the world with some memorable hits. The Sun Ain't Gonna Shine Any More, My Ship Is Coming In and Make It Easy On Yourself were all Walker Brothers originals that come instantly to mind, but you can't Dance Rock 'n' Roll to them.

Roy's gaff can be forgiven. Its true that the production of music in the original Rock 'n' Roll style didn't continue, although artists like Shakin' Stevens did release some pretty good tracks in the old style during the 'seventies and when Jackie Wilson's Reet Petite was re-released after his death it soared up the charts. In Australia, even Gene Chandler's Duke of Earl enjoyed a revival in the 'eighties after it was featured in a television commercial. The expected death of Rock 'n' Roll wasn't happening.

This also brings to mind a song released by one of the most successful Australian groups of the 'sixties, The Master's Apprentices. The lyrics say Rockin', Rollin' we're still doing it now, 15 years today and we remember how. When that song was released in 1970 it was apparently remarkable that we remembered how after an eon of 15 years. Its now 50 years since Rock 'n' Roll first appeared and we still remember how.

Its a fair bet that Roy Orbison's early songs are played a lot more often around the world nowadays than the Walker Brothers records are. The main reason for that is simply that you can Rock 'n' Roll to them. It can have little to do with the quality of the music, since those of us who were teenagers back then have forgotten so many excellent recordings from when we were young.

Simply put, the Dance preserved the music rather than vice versa. Without the lasting popularity of the energetic, versatile and easily learned Dance style, the music would probably have died long ago. Perhaps not all of it, at least initially. Elvis fans will no doubt testify to the immortality of The King's music, but reality will triumph. Elvis fans are no more immortal in th e flesh than he was. They too will eventually die out.

Most young people who learn Rock 'n' Roll Dance nowadays have no more preference for the music of Elvis or The Beatles than they have for any of the obscure one-hit-wonders who contributed so many of the old hit records. They find Smashmouth more appealing as artists, but if an old song is good to Dance to they like it no matter who recorded it. Its reasonable to assume they will preserve much of the music after we are gone, but mainly for Dance purposes rather than for entertainment.

That is what has happened to other music styles. For example, the folk music that was so popular in the late 'fifties and early 'sixties has died out because you can't Dance to it. On the other hand many old time tunes such as Waltzes and marches remain popular t oday because ballroom dancing preserves them.

So, how long will Rock 'n' Roll last? No-one can tell, but the Waltz dates back to 1780 and is still practiced, so our favourite Dance and music style might have a couple of hundred years to live yet. Perhaps then a songwriter will compose a song in the popular style of the day entitled Roll Over, Roy Orbison.

Gareth Eastwood is a Rock 'n' Roll Dance instructor and enthusiast in Adelaide, South Australia. He maintains a recently created website, http://www.RocknRollDance.com/ in which he repeatedly stresses the need for Dancers to be gentle with each other rather than dancing roughly. When fully developed the site will feature articles by numerous authors detailing Dance styles and reporting on events.

He also created and manages Going Pl aces With Gareth, a gigantic singles social network revolving around a long-established website http://www.garethevents.info/ The network has been operating since May, 2000. Since then over three and a half thousand people have become involved in it to some degree.

The Structure of a Chord (Triad) for Piano Keyboard and Organ

There are many types of chords but in this article, we will deal with major triads and minor triads and how to construct them.

First, let us deal with the language used to identify major chords and minor chords. If you are familiar with sheet Music and you see a C chord symbol above the staff. All you will see is C. This means, play a C major chord with your left hand. If you see a Cm chord symbol. This means play a C minor chord with your left hand. So basically the rules are, you do not need to state that C is major or that a triad is major or that a third is major (more on thirds later) but you do need to state that a chord is minor or a triad is minor and so on.

So for example if I want to talk about a C chord, I can say C chord or C major chord (optional). If I want to talk about a C minor chord, I must state C minor. In other words, the major does not need to be stated but the minor must always be stated.

There are twelve major triads and twelve minor triads to learn so by learning one major and one minor you can work out the rest. We will use C chord as our example. Each triad or three note chord consists of a Root a Third and a Fifth. The root for a C chord is C the third is E and the fifth is G. If you are playing on a Keyboard with your left hand C is at the bottom (little finger), E is in the middle (third finger) and G is on top (thumb). So on a keyboard you are playing C chord in root position. Its called root position because the root C (the name of the chord) is the bottom note.

Now lets look at the distances between notes. The distance from the root to the third is four semitones. The distance from the root to the fifth is seven semitones. These distances apply to all major triads. So if you want to find the notes for G chord. Start with G the root then count to the right four semitones from G to get B (third) and seven semitones from G to get D(fifth). You have just found G chord (G,B,D).

For minor chords, the only difference is the third. The distance from the root to the third in a major chord is four semitones. The distance from the root to a minor third is three semitones. Therefore, the notes for Cm chord are C (root) Eb (minor third) G (fifth).

Remember, Major does not have to be stated, its optional, but Minor must always be stated.

Guitar Practice Make It Your Priority!

Every student realizes that Guitar Practice is important if they wish to become a better musician. Even so, many have trouble establishing a regular Practice routine. Other responsibilities have a way of squeezing them into a work-a-holic lifestyle, leaving little room left for personal pursuits. Even teens and children are over-stretched these days with school and other extra-curricular activities. So, what's the secret to creating an effective Guitar practicing schedule? The answer: MAKE IT YOUR PRIORITY!

That may sound simple to some and impossible to others, but it is absolutely imperative to becoming a good Guitarist. Giving something priority simply means to put it before everything else in order of time and importance. Now, it's always easier to set priorities when there is a desire to accomplish, or reach a specific end result. So, having a goal in mind when practicing the Guitar, will help you to maintain your focus and provide a sense of purpose too.

According to the Scribner-Bantam English Dictionary, the word Practice means:

- to work or pursue as a profession
- to perform often in order to learn
- to teach by frequent repetition; drill

In order to make your Guitar Practice a priority, try thinking of it as you would your job or school work. By this, I don't mean it should be a drudgery, but an important necessity.

Schedule a time each day to Practice your Guitar, and stick to it. Be firm in your decision. Mark it in your appointment book, or on your calandar. You will begin to notice an improvement in your overall ability when you Practice the Guitar on a regular basis. There will be times when you seem to leap forward, and other times when you don't seem to be getting anywhere. But understand that the Guitar is one of the most difficult instruments to become really proficient on, so you will need to guard against discouragement. I have a friend who plays piano, cello and violin. She decided to take up classical Guitar and confessed that it was the most difficult instrument she had ever tried to learn. So, you may want to keep notes on your progress for personal encouragement as well as an incentive to persevere.

Commitment and determination are two of the most important keys to success in any pursuit. Talent and natural ability are a definite plus, but many talented Guitar students lack discipline. In order to succeed, you must learn to cultivate and nurture your natural abilities through regular Guitar Practice. Skill is developed by continually honing, experimenting and perfecting your gift. Don't just take it for granted, be willing to work hard. All great Guitarists have this one thing in common- they made Guitar p racitice a priority! So, get yourself started in the same direction by keeping these things in mind...

1. Make your Guitar Practice a priority
2. Establish a specific time of day to Practice
3. Make a commitment to practicing regularly
4. Set short term and long term goals (make a note when reached)
5. Persevere through difficulty
6. Be determined to succeed

Above all else, enjoy playing the Guitar and learning new things- have fun! Think of your Guitar Practice as an adventure. With so many different Guitar styles and techniques, there will always be something else to discover. Life is short, so make some time to do what you love and be happy!

Piano for the Fun of It: Creating with the Open Position Chord

So, you're a fan of the Piano. You like the way it looks and sounds but you're too afraid to approach the task of learning how to play it.

You're not alone! Literally millions of people would love to learn this instrument but don't because they're intimidated by the learning curve.

But fear no more! Your learning curve just got a lot shorter thanks to the Open Position Chord! This versatile chord structure allows the beginning Piano student to sound like a pro faster than any other method I know of! Why? Because it allows you to play a modern sounding chord with both hands right away.

There's no note reading or Piano tabs to concern yourself with here for by learning how to play this unique chord structure, you can start to create your own unique Music! The Open Position Chord covers more than 2 octaves of the Piano keyboard. The hands are used to maximum capacity to create a rich, full sounding chord that contemporary pianists use today.

We start by learning all the Open Position Chords in the Key of C. There are 7 of them buy 6 are used most frequently. They are C Major 7, D minor 7, E minor 7, F Major 7, G 7, A minor 7, and B half-diminished 7. This last chord is almost the same as G 7 and is rarely used in most Music today.

We take this 6 note chord structure beginning with C Major 7 and move it up the scale one note at a time creating the chords you see named above. For example, in the lesson Reflections in Water (available below) we use 4 of these chords to create a unique little improvisation. Just knowing the chords and the C Major scale is enough material for the complete beginner to begin making Music.

Music History Hip Hop Rap R&B

In the early 1970s, the cultural movement of hip hop music was born. Hip hops fast paced music style is made of two parts; the rhythmic delivery of Rap and the use ofinstrumentation by a DJ. Hip hop music also brought with it a fashion of its own, the fashion helped to represent this newly created music.

Hip hop music has its roots from West African music and African-American music. The first Rap song to be put onto a vinyl record was, Rappers Delight, a song by the Sugarhill Gang back in the 1970s. This is when block parties started becoming the norm in New York City, which gave hip hop and Rap the chance to explode in popularity. Hip hops instrumentation came from funk, R&B, and disco, when combined together make this dynamic type of music. When the DJs at these block parties learned what the people liked, they began mixing these vinyl records and created music that played continuously with amazing transitions between songs. Hip hop was actually created by a DJ na med Kool Herc, a Jamaican that had moved to the United States with a style that consisted of mixing music by using two copies of the same record. Many of the poor Jamaicans in the town could not afford vinyl records, so huge stereo systems were set up so that many could here the rhythmic beats. These stereo systems were the kick-off for the beginning of the evolution of block parties. So with the musical talent of these amazing DJs, with the use of vinyl record mixing, the culture of hip hop and Rap music was born.

History of R & B

R&B, which stands for Rhythm and Blues, was the greatest influence on music around the world for most of the 20th centurys second-half. Rhythm and Blues is a term with a broad sense, but typically recognizing black-pop music. This type of music was introduced to the world by artists combining the music styles of jazz and blues. R&B is actually what was later developed into what we know as rock and roll. In the 1970s, the term R&B was being used to describe soul and funk music styles, which today we know it describes Rhythm and Blues. Along with being influenced by jazz and blues, R&B also had influences from gospel and disco music. Discos downturn in the 1980s opened the door for R&B to truly take-off in popularity.

How To Sing Higher

Whether you are a singing pro or just a beginner, it is likely that at one point or another, a limited vocal range has put a damper on your confidence to sing certain songs. If you are unfamiliar with the term, vocal range refers to the range of notes you can reach with your singing voice. While some struggle with low notes, most people struggle with the high notes.

High notes can seem very elusive, and maybe you think they are reserved for those ultra divas we see everywhere. However, everyone is capable of bridging the gap to those high notes with some effort on their pArt.

First, let's take a moment to distinguish between the three main registers of the human voice.

The first register is the deepest and most comfortable for most people to sing in. It is called chest voice. This is typically the vocal register you talk in. The sound resonates deep within the chest cavity and is therefore given the name chest voice.

On the higher end, we have head voice. so called because these notes are much higher and lighter and resonate within the nasal and head cavities. This is the sound we usually hear when someone sings higher up in opera and classical music.

Another register that actually isn't a register is called falsetto. It contains the root false because, though it can be produced at almost any frequency, it is very light and airy, and the vocal cords are not actually coming together fully.

Finally, the solution to hitting those powerful high notes you may hear some famous singers hit, is the lesser-known mixed voice or middle voice. This is the register in between chest and head voice. It is a balance or compromise between the two. Unfortunately, if you are like many other singers, you have spent your life hitting those high notes by pulling up c hest voice. Not only is this very painful, but it can be very damaging to your vocals and lead to cysts and nodules on your vocal cords - this is very bad!

So to undo what you have been doing for so long, you need to stArt practicing going up and down scales without pulling chest. Just relax and let it happen.

It may feel very strange at first, but just be very light on the bottom notes and this will help lead you into mixed voice and then head. At first, your mixed voice will be very airy and sound almost like head, but don't worry! That's normal, especially if you have been pulling chest all your life.

As you continue to practice, you will slowly develop a strong mixed voice with all the power of chest voice and all the ease of head voice.

Piano Lessons For Adults: More Fun Easier & Faster Than Piano Lessons For Kids

Piano lessons for adults is generally LOTS more fun than it is for kids, primarily because the only adults that play piano are people who really want to, which is certainly not true of most kids that take piano lessons because their parents want them to.

But thats not the only reason by a long shot.

Adults in record numbers are signing up for piano lessons all around the world, for a variety of reasons, including:

* Because of the internet, adults have become aware that piano lessons dont have to happen in a Music studio or store, so they are not locked into a schedule of showing up for a lesson every Tuesday at 4. Now they can choose their own time and schedule and learn at their own pace via lessons available on the internet.

*Adults have become aware that traditional methods of learning by reading Music and practicing scales is not the only way to learn to play the piano. They have become aware that learning Chords and chording techniques is a viable option.

*Chord-based piano learning methods are excellent for beginning adults, since they can quickly learn enough to make their songs sound good in a reasonably short time. It doesnt take years of intense practice to be able to play a familiar tune in the right hand while chording in the left hand.

*Many adults have found that by learning Chords, they can come through the backdoor of piano playing. They learn to play chord-style quickly, and enjoy it so much that they are then motivated to learn to read Music and go on to master traditional sight-reading.

*In addition to the Musical benefits, professional people ha ve discovered that piano playing is one of the most relaxing things they can do after work. It allows them to get their minds off the activities of the day and just focus on the pleasure of making their own Music.

*Some have even taken it a step further and become proficient enough to play at social events and parties. Just being able to play Happy Birthday while everyone sings along is a real social advantage, and satisfying emotionally as well.

*Other adults use their new-found piano playing skills to play in their churches or on worship teams, or just to accompany themselves as they sing.

*Piano playing adults can create their own Music in their own way they can do their own thing in Music. They can create moods ranging from joy to silliness to sadness to patriotism to whatever matches the need of the hour.

*And last but certainly not least, chord piano lessons taken over the internet or in home by way of DVD's and CD's are much less expensive tha n traditional lessons, and can be replayed over and over as necessary.

Whatever the reason, adults in increasing numbers are doing what they thought they would never do they are willingly taking piano lessons, knowing the benefits are many and wonderful.

Cyndi's Still Having Fun Acoustically

One could be forgiven for thinking that Cyndi Lauper has slowly faded into obscurity since her supernova like explosion onto the popcharts with her 1983 debut album Shes So Unusual.

But the girl that just wants to have fun has merely grown up and matured into one of the most endearing voices in pop Music today.

On her new album, The Body Acoustic, Laupers put together a collection of her hits and favorites, stripped down and reworked to really expose the beauty of her poignant lyrics.

Its been over 20 years since Cythia Ann Stephanie Lauper, or Cyndi as we affectionately know her, won a Grammy Award for Best New Artist and released a string of top ten hits including She Bop, True Colours, All Through The Night, Money Changes Everything and Time After Time which has since been covered by over 70 artists including Willy Nelson and Miles Davis.

Create Audio CDs from MP3 Files

Music has found a new way of storage in the form of digital files in the computer and other digital systems. The MP3 format is the most popular and widely used storage media for music. Many people store a database of music in the form of MP3s in their computer system. There is a need to create a back up of every file stored on the computer due to the fear of its crashing. Similar to the data files backup, MP3 backup is also necessary. The most convenient and intelligent way of creating MP3 backup is by converting them into audio CDs.

Converting MP3 files into audio CDs is very simple and relatively easier than creating a backup of a data file. There is an abundance of CD burning software which can burn or make an audio CD with the help of a CD writer drive. The user just needs to compile a play list of the MP3 song files which he needs to store and then the software stores them into the CD.

The burning procedure of the audio CD is easy to understand. In the bur ning procedure, first the Mp3 files are converted into Compact Disc Audio (CDA) format files. This process is internal to the software program and is not displayed to the user. The most popular CD burning program is Nero. Although Nero software can handle all the burning procedure and behind the scenes conversion, it provides additional customized options for advanced users. For instance, Nero has a simple audio editor which provides the advanced option of applying filters like noise reduction, equalization or stereo widening and splitting of files.

Not all the CD burning software comes with the advanced features. In these cases the MP3 can be processed manually before burning the CD using dedicated audio editing software. There are plenty of freeware and commercial software programs available on the Intern et for this service. The most useful editing functions while preparing MP3 files for burning onto CDs is to 'normalize' them. The normalization process smoothens out the volume spikes or differences between the various tracks on the CD. This process ensures that the entire CD plays at the same relative loudness. After the editing procedure of the MP3 files they should be saved in the WAV file format to be burned to CD. Sometimes the MP3s are burned to a Compact Disc Recordable (CD-R) format. The problem with this format is that although most modern CD players can play this CD format, the older CD players might not read them.

It is not essential for MP3s to be converted to another format. They can be burned directly to Audio CDs in the original MP3 format without any conversion. As MP3 files comes in a more highly compressed format than other formats, a large amount of song files can be stored on one CD - about 120 songs instead of 10 Wav type files. Moreover, the MP3 C Ds can be played on a computer CD-ROM in addition to the compatible CD and DVD players.

There is one problem with MP3 CDs and that is looking for a particular piece of music among the huge file list is difficult, especially if the CD player doesn't have a display. The solution to this problem is to use a DVD player connected to a TV or home theater system and arrange the songs into logically divided folders - by artist, album etc. Also the name of the MP3 files should start with the name of the song rather than the artist to facilitate searching.

Surrogate Life

Years ago, upon my first-ever arrival in Paris, there was no doubt as to where I would begin my itinerary ...

I went immediately to the Pre Lachaise cemetery.

That's the final resting place of such luminaries as Voltaire, Victor Hugo, Sarah Berhhardt and Chopin. If I had been there during daylight, I'm sure I would have taken my time to pay my respects to each of them and others. However, it was around 1.00am, and this was a pilgrimage to what's become more of a shrine than a grave.

This is where Jim Morrison of the Doors is buried.

James Dean lived fast and died young. Kurt Cobain had succumbed, by his own hand, to stress and recurrent abdominal pains. Marilyn Monroe took too many pills. Mama Cass choked on that fateful ham sandwich. Keith Moon simply exploded from self-indulgence.

Jim Morrison was different. He lived hard so we didn't have to.

I believe that there are those among us who live life on the edge for the sole purpose of con veying that experience to everyone else. I don't think they make a conscious decision to do so, but the circumstances of their existence drew them to it. They embody a collusion of talent, freedom, credibility and forum. From that mixture, fate then intercedes and legends are forged.

This role doesn't need to end in the ultimate cost of mortality. Look at Lou Reed. An underground poet laureate who was anointed as such by Andy Warhol, Reed could also arguably be called the godfather of punk --- a genre which ultimately influences popular music to this day --- who then became a Rock-&-Roll Animal before settling into married life and relative tranquility. He's a writer-cum-musician who returned the value of word economy to lyrics (the Ramones owe a huge debt to him), who lionized the shadowy annals of altered states and culminated it by allegedly shooting heroin on stage. Somehow, the nihilistic creator of Sweet Jane, the opiate chronicler of White Light/White Heat, the dark playwright of Berlin, managed to survive. I'm sure no one is more pleased with that result than him.

Morrison, on the other hand, never seemed to care.

His obsession was with a mystic dimension that seemingly co-existed with visceral reality and his determination was to channel it. This endeavor has been well-accounted both in Danny Sugarman's book, 'No One Here Gets Out Alive,' and Oliver Stone's cinematic version of it, logically entitled, 'The Doors.'

Morrison did Break on Through to the Other Side and became The Lizard King. His lifestyle and lyrics served as a catalyst for both new age and outrage. The Doors framed his visions in catchy tunes that were a cornerstone of their era. Their music worked for breezy listening, for intense audiophilia and for all levels in between. When Morrison would sing, I woke up this morning and got myself a beer, there was no doubting his presence in the original Hard Rock Caf and that breakfast was going to be his lightest meal of the day.

With a legacy like that, I guess it's no surprise that rumors circulated about the French authorities wanting to evict him from such an esteemed cemetary as Pre Lachaise. However, during my visit, I was told by a watchful gendarme that the graves were purchased in perpetuity, so he and his colleagues would man many a midnight patrol to monitor the Morrison mourners. From what I saw and have come to know, that is a full-time nocturnal posting.

Even at the late hour, I was one of around a dozen who surrounded Morrison's headstone. Someone's ghettoblaster churned through a litany of Doors songs, candles and flashlights provided an eerily appropriate atmosphere, and even though a strong waft of 60s-ish aroma was ever present, the constables kept their distance as long as the tokers kept themselves discreet. The composition of the entourage was constantly changing; the comings and goings were hardly acknowledged. Instead, the conversations we re perpetual and free-form. On occasion, someone would recall a personal memory involving a Doors song, but preferred topics were more along the lines of the consciousness Morrison seemed intent on raising. Lyrics were analyzed and musical passages were toasted. All of this was done in hushed tones, not necessarily out of respect, but because no one wanted to upstage the ghettoblaster's ongoing soundtrack.

I was there for two hours. No one exchanged names or details. There were different points of view expressed, but no arguments. Literary references and musical influences peppered the dialog with a subtle intensity that would have made him proud. The effect of everyone's comments seemed both thoughtful and theraputic, as they put Morrison's escapades and compositions into deep personal perspectives; there was no doubt he had indeed, in some manner, become an extension of each of their lives and they felt they were enriched because of it.

My lasting memory of tha t night was the notion that Jim Morrison probably would have preferred being the focal point for those introspective testaments rather than for the massive din of a Doors concert.

If so, maybe that meant he finally got what he wanted. In a way, then, so did we.
