The Pyramid Theory

Concept: Basically a theory on how to take down the big boys of the Music industry and propel us (unsigned/indie Artists/fans/etc...) into the main scene of the Music industry. Not only take them down, but also how to set up a new way to do business with the industry.

How To Take Them Down: Its a very easy idea in concept and on paper however, the millions that we need to tell about the idea and persuade them to do it could be a challenging problem.

So you look at the Music industry as being a pyramid. With the 4 big labels at the top with the radio stations that use payola and only play about 10 songs a day. Then there is a huge gap and at the bottom is us, the indie and unsigned Musicians, plus the smaller record labels, radio station, fans, etc...

Now there are a few Musicians in th e middle, however I am trying to keep the simple; the only ones we want to take down are those labels and radio stations.

So since they are at the top we will have an easier time of getting them to fall. All we do, is move out of the bottom of the pyramid. What I mean by moving out of the bottom of the pyramid is to stop buying, listening, watching, looking, stop supporting them in anyway possible!! If we get enough people to really stick with this plan, then we have a huge chance at succeeding. But only if millions of people do this, that is why I am asking you to help me bring people to this forum and also let them know of this plan!

Setting Up The New Music Industry: First off what went wrong with the way the industry is now? Greed!! Musicians being greedy for wanting to be more famous and having more fans; which they let the labels do what they want and the signed any contract, which in fact let the labels get greedy! So then that just let everything go down hill from there, including radio stations, etc...

So how do we take the greed out of the picture, and anything else that could possibly hurt the industry again. Well you create a balance between Musicians, record labels, radio stations, fans, promoters, etc... We can create this balance by putting everyone into their own group.

These groups will govern each other. Each group will have its on committee or board of directors. Each group will have a membership fee, which will help support the group committee and group members.

Musicians Group: This group is the most vital group. It will hold everything together. All Musicians in the industry that wants to get recognized will need to sign up as a member. Now I can foresee some starting out Musicians won't want to pay fees so we will need to make a fee chart for different members, incorporating different variables such as CD sales, fan base, etc I will let more things happen once we put together this group.

< p>Your probably thinking, well isnt the ASCAP (The American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers) the same type of group. No, they have too many ties with other organizations we are trying to take down. We need to start off fresh; however we can take a lot of their ideas and concepts to use them in ours.

This group will help regulate, help, advise; Musicians on contracts, resources, and many other things Musicians need. Thats the basics of the Musicians group, I wont go into more detail only for the fact that this is only a concept and needs to be supported more.

Other Groups: And to keep this short, I will say that the other groups are The Record Labels, Promotions, and Fans/Marketing.

How This Will Work: Well everyone will belong to a group, Musicians, record labels, Promotions, etc These groups will each have committees and all members will need to pay small fees to help regulate, and support the industry. These committees will be in charge of d ifferent orders between groups and in their own groups.

The system will check and keep balance between groups, such as record labels and Musicians. I feel this system, with more work and ideas put into it, will be a better way to go. And we dont need to stop the top labels and killers of the industry, we can start it right away; then that will help bring down the top of the pyramid.

So what do you think? Worth your time and effort, hell yes! Please comment and give great thought into this idea; I am ready to start this.
